A World Wide Popularity Contest
"A worldwide popularity contest" is what is running the marketing world these days. After reading this transcript, I can't help but agree. The names are names I've never heard of in my life, aside from Kim K. obviously, but these unknown kids are making crazy amounts of money by just name-dropping. They are offering insight into the inner workings of the teenage mind. They’re giving us a glimpse into what twenty-somethings want to eat and how they want to wash their hair. No topic or product is off-limits. I don't even know what to call this type of marketing: raw, fresh, young, stupid, genius? The strategy is to get as many people to view your content as possible. Each post contains affiliated links. When a viewer clicks on those links, those companies pay that influencer a percentage... this is how an influencer is born.
